Syria tops the list of countries with the highest number of forcibly disappeared journalists
ARK News… Syria topped the list of countries with the highest number of missing journalists (forcibly disappeared) since 2000 until the last update for the current year (2023).
Reporters Without Borders stated that the number of missing journalists in the world since 2000 has reached 165 journalists distributed to 37 countries.
According to the organization, Syria topped the list of those countries with the number of missing journalists, which amounted to 33 people.
In the classification of the "Freedom of the Press" index, the results of which were published by the organization earlier this year, the Middle East and North Africa region remained one of the most dangerous regions in the world for journalists, with a "very bad" rating for more than half of its countries.
This poor and very low rating for some countries, including Syria (ranked 175), Yemen (ranked 168) and Iraq (ranked 167) in particular, was due to the large number of missing journalists or those being held hostage, according to "Reporters Without Borders".
