ARK News... On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, marked the 33rd anniversary of the assassination and martyrdom of the Kurdish fighter, Dr. Abdel Rahman Qasimlo, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party - Iran, in Vienna, the capital of Austria, with two of his comrades at the hands of Iranian intelligence.

Brief on the life of the martyr Dr. Abdel Rahman Qasimlo

Abdel Rahman Qasimlo (1930 - 1989) was the most prominent Kurdish leader in East Kurdistan during the second half of the twentieth century. And one of the Kurdish intellectuals who promoted the issues and demands of their people.

He was born in the Qasimlo Valley, adjacent to the city of Urmia, and completed his studies in Tehran, Iraq, and Istanbul, and from there, with the help of the martyr and Kurdish writer Musa Antar, he moved to Europe to complete his higher education, where he obtained a doctorate from Czechoslovakia.

He started his first political activity in 1945 AD and played a role in the formation of the Democratic Youth Union in Kurdistan. In 1947, Qasimlo went to France and completed his studies there.

Qasimlo participated in many of the demonstrations called by the National Front Party and was a strong supporter of the ideas and directions of Muhammad Musaddaq.

At the beginning of 1950 AD, the Kurdistan Democratic Party - of Iran held its second conference, which resulted in the birth of the Central Committee and the Executive Committee, and the member, Abd al-Rahman Qasimlo, became the head of the Central Committee.

In this regard, Abdel Rahman Qasimlo wrote in an article entitled “Iranian Kurdistan” in the book “A People Without a Homeland” regarding the conditions of the Kurdish region during that stage, which reads: “Kurdistan became a military region compared to other cities in Iran… It is governed by the army and the police, especially the apparatus of SAVAK, and the popular movements were suffering from both… the security elements were even aware of the movements of some Kurdish nationalists and chased them from one village to another”.

In a new development of events and accordingly, the Democratic Party held its fourth conference headed by Secretary General Qasimlo in June 1971 AD, which was just released from one of the prisons of the capital, Tehran, with the support and backing of the Tuda Party, which has been providing material and military aid to the party. Which strengthened the bonds of friendship between the two parties, in terms of common ties, especially the issue of overthrowing the Shah, and the political orientations toward the Iranian working class.

At the same time, Qasimlo was working as a lecturer at the University of Prague in Czechoslovakia. Before moving to France to work at the Sorbonne as a professor of Kurdish language and history.

In late 1978 he returned to Eastern Kurdistan, to establish branches there for his party, and his comrades seized the reins of affairs in the Kurdish regions in the turmoil that swept the country during the Iranian revolution.

Dr. Abdel Rahman Qasimlo, head of the Iranian Kurdistan Democratic Party, was assassinated in Vienna, the capital of Austria, on July 13, 1989, along with two of his comrades, at the hands of Iranian intelligence agents.
