Lindsey Graham: Any advance by the Syrian government against the Kurds will be met with a strong American response.
ARK News.. U.S. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham announced his support for a call by fellow Senator Jim Reisch for de-escalation in Syria, stressing the need to hold Syria’s new government accountable for human rights violations against the country’s components.
In a post on the social media platform X on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Graham expressed deep concern over what he described as “credible reports indicating a potential advance by Syrian army forces and Turkey against our Kurdish allies in the region,” warning that such a move could prompt a strong response from the United States.
“What concerns me most is that I am receiving what I believe to be credible reports that Syrian army forces and Turkey may advance further against our Kurdish allies — a step that I believe would trigger a strong response from the United States,” Graham said.
The Republican senator added: “While I support giving the new Syrian government a chance, I will not tolerate or accept a blatant attack on our Kurdish allies, who were the primary force in destroying ISIS.”
Graham concluded his statement with a message directed at the Syrian government and Turkey, saying: “Choose wisely,” underscoring the importance of avoiding actions that could further escalate the conflict in the region.
