ARK News… A meeting of the foreign ministers of France, the United States, Britain, and Germany that was scheduled to be held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York failed due to the dispute over the new security alliance in the Indo-Pacific region.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas confirmed Tuesday that the French side had withdrawn from the meeting, which was scheduled for Wednesday. He said it was not canceled, but postponed.

He said the reason was "the resentment on the French side, which I can understand, and some things there first need to be straightened out before we can sit together like this."

The US State Department cited difficulties with scheduling, with a senior official saying timetables are dynamic and it remains to be seen whether such a meeting is still necessary this week.

The official said she expected US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and his French counterpart, Jean-Yves Le Drian, to have another opportunity to exchange views later this week.

The security pact between the United States, Britain, and Australia, launched last week, has caused a deep diplomatic crisis between Washington and Paris.

This alliance appears to be aimed at countering a military threat from China in the Indo-Pacific region, but it derailed a multibillion-dollar agreement between Australia and France.
