ARK News.. The World Health Organization (WHO) has commended the anti-COVID-19 measures taken by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), noting that the citizens in the region "are more committed" to the instructions.

Speaking to the Iraqi media, Adnan Nawar, an official from the organization's office in Baghdad pointed out that all the protective measures by the KRG "are correct" and that they are in line with WHO's guidelines.

"All the measures taken in the Kurdistan Region are correct and are in line with the instructions of the World Health Organization, and the International Health Regulations," Nawar said, as quoted by Kurdistan 24.

"The citizens in the Kurdistan Region are more committed to the instructions, especially concerning the curfew, in comparison to other Iraqi provinces."

Shortly after a few cases of the new coronavirus were confirmed in the Kurdistan Region, the KRG announced various measures, including the closure of schools and universities, suspension of flights from and to coronavirus-hit countries, placing all provinces and districts under a curfew so as to prevent the novel virus from further spreading in the region.

Only one patient has so far lost his life from COVID-19 in the Kurdistan Region who was a 63-year-old man in Sulaimaniyah province, while 13 out 47 individuals have fully recovered from the virus.
