A second round of Turkish-US negotiations on the safe area
ARK News: The Turkish Defense Ministry announced on Monday the start of a new round of talks between a US and Turkish delegation at a high level on the establishment of a safe area east of the Euphrates river, after the escalation of Turkish statements confirmed its intention to launch a military operation in if it does not reach an agreement with Washington.
The Turkish capital Ankara hosted yesterday the sixth meeting of the joint working committee of Turkish and American military officials to discuss the planned safe area east of the Euphrates river since its establishment last summer and was the second in two weeks.
The US official expressed deep Washington's concern about the intention of the Turkish army to carry out a military operation east of the Euphrates river in Syria, considering that these actions are unacceptable, a day after the Turkish president's statements in this regard.
The head of the press office in the US State Department Morgan Ortegos: "These unilateral military activities are of our serious concern, especially when US forces may be nearby, while operations continue with our local partners against Da’esh remnants. We consider these activities unacceptable, and we call upon Turkey to work again to develop a common approach."
The US diplomat added that her country continues to discuss the issue of the security zone, with the Turkish authorities, and considers this dialogue is the only way to ensure security in the border area.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Sunday that his country will carry out the operation against the east of the Euphrates river in Syria, pointing out that his country has informed Russia and the United States about the expected operation.
