Kurdistan Region President Thanks European Union for Continued Support.

ARK News.. Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received the European Union Ambassador to Iraq, Clemens Zimtnar, on Sunday, August 30, 2026, in the presence of Stefan Wendt, the EU’s newly appointed head of office in Erbil.

During the meeting, President Nechirvan Barzani renewed the Kurdistan Region’s appreciation and gratitude for the European Union’s continued positions and support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. He also congratulated Stefan Wendt on assuming his new duties in Erbil, wishing him success and affirming that the Kurdistan Region would provide full support to help ensure the success of the EU mission.

For his part, Ambassador Zimtnar reaffirmed the European Union’s firm commitment to continuing its support and assistance to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. He stressed the EU’s interest in strengthening bilateral partnership, maintaining assistance, and expanding cooperation across various fields and sectors.

The meeting also addressed the general and political situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, as well as the latest developments and rapidly unfolding events across the region.
