Qamishlo Sees Long Queues Outside Bakeries Amid Bread Shortage

ARK News.. The city of Qamishlo in Syrian Kurdistan is witnessing long queues outside tourist bakeries amid a shortage of bread, as most bakeries have remained closed for several days.

Local sources reported that the bread crisis has once again become a major concern in Qamishlo, with the continued closure of most bakeries causing a severe shortage of the essential commodity and increasing difficulties for residents trying to meet their daily needs.

According to the sources, bakery owners attribute the shutdown to delays in receiving their flour allocations, while the Grain Corporation has required transactions to be conducted using the new Syrian currency. This has created additional complications that have negatively affected production and distribution.

With a large number of bakeries out of service, residents have been forced to turn to tourist bakeries to obtain bread. These bakeries have witnessed severe overcrowding and long queues in recent days, with residents reportedly spending hours waiting to purchase a single bundle of bread.

A bundle of bread at tourist bakeries costs around 6,000 Syrian pounds, placing an additional burden on residents already facing extremely difficult economic and living conditions.

As queues continue to form outside tourist bakeries, attention remains focused on the relevant authorities and the measures they may take to end the crisis and restore the regular distribution of bread in Qamishlo.
