Kalas: Diplomatic Efforts Over Strait of Hormuz Have Yet to Yield a Breakthrough
ARK News.. The European Union has stressed the need to safely restore freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz without restrictions or the imposition of transit fees, as diplomatic efforts continue to address tensions surrounding the vital waterway.
Speaking ahead of a meeting of European defense ministers in Ireland, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kalas said the ongoing diplomatic efforts had so far failed to achieve a breakthrough, stressing that restoring freedom of navigation through previously open maritime routes remains a priority for the European Union.
“We stress the need to restore freedom of navigation. Diplomatic efforts are still ongoing, but they have not yet produced any results,” Kallas said.
The EU’s foreign policy chief added that the European Union rejects the imposition of “any transit fees or levies” on these maritime routes, noting that freedom of navigation and the security of shipping remain key priorities for European maritime security.
