President Barzani Mourns the Death of His Elder Brother

ARK News.. President Masoud Barzani announced on Friday, September 4, 2026, the death of his elder brother, Abdulwahid Ibrahim Sheikh Abdul Salam Barzani, following a health condition.

Below is the text of President Barzani’s message:

In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

“And give good tidings to those who patiently endure, who, when disaster strikes them, say, ‘Indeed, we belong to God, and indeed to Him we will return.’”

Dear people of Kurdistan,

With hearts filled with profound sorrow and grief, and believing in God’s decree and destiny, we announce the death of the eldest brother of our family, the late Abdulwahid Ibrahim Sheikh Abdul Salam Barzani, who passed away on Friday, September 4, 2026, following an illness.

The late Abdulwahid was the grandson of the national and religious leader Sheikh Abdul Salam Barzani. He was an example of piety, devotion, and good deeds and at the same time held a prominent and highly respected position within our family.

We ask Almighty God to envelop the soul of the deceased in His vast mercy and grant him a place in His spacious Paradise.

Indeed, we belong to God, and indeed to Him we will return.
