Nearly Two Million Syrians Have Returned to Their Country Since the Fall of the Former Regime
ARK News.. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced that 1,795,641 Syrians have returned to their country since December 8, 2024, indicating an expansion in the return movement.
According to UNHCR data, Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, and Egypt were among the leading countries from which returnees came, with return movements continuing to be recorded through various border crossings.
The UNHCR also explained that return figures do not rely on a single source. Instead, they are calculated based on cross-referencing data monitoring border crossings with information received from monitoring teams and field reports, with the aim of reaching more accurate estimates of the number of Syrians who have returned to the country.
The UNHCR noted that crossings through official border crossings account for the largest proportion of the total number of registered returnees, while the agency continues to monitor population movements and update its estimates according to field data and cross-border movement.
