Masrour Barzani Voices Concern Over Ongoing Military Operations in Syria

ARK News.. Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has expressed deep concern over the continuation of military operations and escalation in Syria, while reaffirming the Kurdistan Region’s efforts to strengthen its economic partnerships with the Republic of Azerbaijan.

In a post published on his official account on the platform X on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Prime Minister Barzani said:
“We held a meeting with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, during which there was agreement on the importance of strengthening bilateral ties, with a particular focus on prospects for investment and trade exchange between the two sides.”

He added that the meeting included a comprehensive review of political and security developments in the region, noting that he expressed concern over the pace of the war and the rapidly evolving military developments in Syria, and their repercussions for regional stability.

The meeting comes as part of the Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister’s diplomatic engagements aimed at discussing shared issues and enhancing the Region’s economic standing in the wider region.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani began his official schedule in Davos on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, with a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening and advancing bilateral relations across all fields, particularly in investment and trade.

President Aliyev highlighted the historic and friendly relations between the peoples of Azerbaijan and Kurdistan, extending an invitation to Prime Minister Barzani to visit Baku. He also expressed his country’s readiness to open a consulate general of Azerbaijan in Erbil.

For his part, Prime Minister Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s desire to further deepen cooperation and coordination with the Republic of Azerbaijan.
