On Kurdish Language Day... Honoring the writer and poet Jwan’s mother

ARK News… The Syrian Kurdistan Writers Union celebrated Kurdish Language Day, on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, in the city of Qamishlo and Domiz Camp in Duhok, and announced that the Kurdish poet and writer, Jiwan's mother, would be honored with the annual award.

The ceremony, which was organized by the Union Representative in the Kurdistan Region, was attended by Haji Kalo, member of the Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party - Syria, Muhammad Ali Ibrahim, member of the Central Committee, representatives of the Kurdish National Council parties, cultural elites, and national and social figures.

The ceremony included a speech on the occasion of Kurdish Language Day, then discussed the life of the writer and poet Jiwan's mother and the clear services she provided that contributed to enriching the Kurdish library.

The Syrian Kurdistan Writers Union honored writer Jiwan's mother by granting her its annual award, in addition to a certificate of appreciation. The Kurdish Azadi Folklore Band decorated the ceremony by presenting folk dances, and many poems were recited.


Abdul Hakim Muhammad, head of the Syrian Kurdistan Writers Union, spoke about the importance of language in the prosperity and progress of civilizations, stressing that language is “the basis for building any political entity.”

N’emat Dawoud, Chairman of the Kurdish National Council, also gave a speech on this occasion, in which he stressed that “the basis of the existence of any people begins with the language,” and stressed the need to work hard “to make the Kurdish language an official language in transactions and dealings, and not just in poetry and singing.”

The ceremony included reciting several poems by poets (Mohamed Abdi, Mohamed Farman, and Omran Mantash), in addition to singing performances by artists (Hajar Tammo and Fawaz Abu Dalo).
