ARK News… In the presence of a number of jurists, jurists, and civil society activists, with the aim of enhancing participation and exchanging opinions with experts and specialists, the Syrian Negotiating Commission held a consultative meeting on the issue of reparation for victims of detention and enforced disappearance, and the issues of truth commissions and their role in transitional justice.

The Chairman of the Commission, Badr Jamous, and members of the Commission, Tariq Aal-Kurdi and Alice Mufarraj, participated in the meeting. It was facilitated by lawyer Yasser al-Farhan from the Mizan Organization for Legal Studies and Human Rights, Brigadier General Abdul Baset Abdul Latif, Head of the Legal Office of the National Coalition, and Counselor Fakhr al-Erian, Director Documentation Department in the Syrian Interim Government.

According to the statement of the Syrian Negotiating Commission, the Chairman of the Commission stressed the need for partnership with Syrian legal experts and specialists, and also partnership with the families of victims, missing persons, male and female survivors, to formulate programs for transitional justice and programs for reparation, it adopts the demands and opinions of those affected and then shares them with international actors, which is what the Commission seeks to achieve.”

Jamous considered that the issue of detainees and missing persons is a basic humanitarian issue that has priority, and any political solution will not be acceptable unless this issue is resolved.” He stressed the need to accommodate the requests of the victims and the families of the victims, especially since it is an item of Resolution 2254, which includes the points that must be worked on to reach a solution. The political solution is to implement the decision.”

Badr Jamous concluded by saying: The Syrian Negotiating Commission will not ignore this issue in all its work, and seeks to share work and visions with the largest segment of Syrian civil society and human rights and legal organizations.
