ARK News: The Syrian opposition is seeking to participate in the arrangements for a “safe zone” to be established in Syrian Kurdistan, but the details of the Turkish-American agreement on the administration of the region are still unclear.

"The opposition will participate in the safe area through the local administrative councils and through the civil police and civil defense," Mudar Hammad al-Asaad, a spokesman for the Syrian Clans and Tribes Council, told BasNews.

He added “there are more than half a million Syrian refugees in Turkey and subjected areas under opposition control, they are originally from these towns, nor can the situation be stabilized only in the presence of local councils and the participation of Syrian revolution activists who are densely live in Turkey, Afrin, Jarablis al-Bab, al-Rahi al-Ghandoura and camps in north Syrian.

"We hope that the aspirations of the Syrian people for a safe return of displaced people and refugees will be realized, while at the same time reaching a comprehensive and complete political solution and implementing UN resolutions 2254, 2218 and Geneva number one," Asaad said.

Asaad also said: The forces of Kurdish units and national defense of the Syrian regime and Iranian, Iraqi, Lebanese and Russian militias must be dismantled who committed horrific massacres against the Syrian people”, pointing out that “this is what the Syrian people are seeking from the Arabs, Kurds, Syrians, Assyrians and Yazidis for the reconstruction and return of refugees”.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (Kurdish units from its nucleus) Mazloum Abdi, had said in a press statement earlier: “We have agreed to establish a safe zone from the Euphrates to the Tigris with a depth of 5 km, 9 km, and 14 km", pointing out that “meetings between the north and east of Syria and the Turkish state continues to solve problems”.

He added that “the safe area between Gire Spi and Sari Kaniye will be in this region between the depth 9 km and 14 km, while the rest of the areas will be 5 km depth, pointing out that “a lot of details have not agreed yet”.

Abdi pointed out that “the first phase of the agreement will include the safe area extending between Gire Spi and Sari Kaniye), while the second phase will include Kobani and then Qamishlo and Derik, and will be in stages”.

Regarding the local forces that will manage the area, Abdi said: "The local people from these areas will manage it,” pointing out that ‘there are ready military councils will protect while the Syrian Democratic Forces will withdraw from the region”.

A Syrian Kurdish source informed on Sunday, continued work to activate the role of local military councils in Syrian Kurdistan and the removal of earth mounds in implementation of the Turkish-American agreement on the safe area in northern Syria.

The source told (BasNews): “The work is underway to activate the role of local military councils to receive the region from the Syrian Democratic Forces to withdraw to 5 km, 9 km, and 14 km according to the agreement between Turkey and America and SDF in the area between Gire Spi and Sari Kaniye”.

He added that “the local forces in Gire Spi and Sari Kaniye under the supervision of the international coalition forces are removing and demolishing the dirt mounds and trenches dug by units on the border with Turkey”.

The source pointed out that “work is underway in Gire Spi and Sari Kaniye in Syrian Kurdistan to implement the first phase of the agreement”.

He pointed out that “the local military councils which established by the forces of Syria Democratic Forces under the supervision of international coalition forces recently were aimed at taking the place of Kurdish units in the region”.
