Kremlin reveals what Putin and Erdogan discussed on the phone

ARK News: While Russian and Turkish forces have been patrolling northern Syria since early November, Vladimir Putin met with Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss the realization of the agreement on the withdrawal of the Kurdish forces.

Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a telephone interview on Saturday, 9 November, in which they discussed the Syrian issue and the implementation of the Russian-Turkish memorandum providing for joint patrols in northern Syria.

In a statement, the Kremlin said the Presidents stressed "the importance of continuing coordinated measures to stabilize the situation in northeastern Syria in strict accordance with the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, and unity".

Heads of State also welcomed the outcome of the first session of the Syrian Constitutional Committee held in Geneva from 30 October to 1 November to pave the way for elections and end the conflict.

This constitutional commission is made up of 150 members, 50 of whom represent the government, 50 of the opposition and 50 of the Syrian civil society.

With the help pro-Turkish forces factions and groups launched an offensive in northeastern Syria on 9 October to move the SDF and the YPG militants away from its border.

On October 22 in Sochi, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan adopted a memorandum on joint patrols in northern Syria.

Under the agreement with Moscow, Kurdish forces have abandoned their positions at the border and patrols conducted by the Turkish army and the Russian army have been set up. The first took place on November 1st.
