A young Syrian woman chooses Erbil to work there and support her family: “a country of safety and security”
ARK News… Maha Al-Khoja, a young Syrian woman from Latakia Governorate, lives in the city of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region. She chose a profession for herself to support her family.
In an exclusive interview, Al-Khoja said: “A year and a half ago, I took refuge in Erbil, after hearing about its security and stability, especially after the Syrians, both Kurds and Arabs, took refuge there.”
She explained, "In the beginning, I suffered a lot and faced great challenges in getting work, but I succeeded in the end."
She continued in her interview with ARK: “I worked in restaurants, cafeterias, and food preparation, but I decided to choose a career for myself, so I chose to sell tea, coffee, and pulp in a simple cart in Aynkawa.”
She added, "I am proud that I support myself, and I am confident in myself, and I thank the people of Kurdistan who support me a lot. Some of them faced the trouble of traveling for long hours to see my work experience and my determination to live."
In the latest official statistics issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the number of Syrian refugees in the Kurdistan Region is estimated at about 260,000 asylum seekers. After the deterioration of the economic conditions in the Syrian regions, the Kurdistan Region has become a destination for Syrian Arabs as well, with tens of thousands entering it recently from the areas of Damascus, Hama, Aleppo and others. .
