Syrian Interior Ministry Announces Arrest of Former Military Security Major General in Qamishlo

ARK News.. The Syrian Ministry of Interior has announced the arrest of former Major General Ali Saleh Ziyab, one of the most prominent officers in the military and security establishment in the city of Qamishlo during the Assad era, who is accused of committing serious violations against the residents of the region.

In a statement issued on Friday, July 3, 2026, the ministry said that Ziyab served as head of the Military Security Branch in Qamishlo between 2008 and 2018, adding that, according to its records, his name was linked to systematic violations and crimes.

It also noted that he was considered a close associate of several senior security commanders at the time.

The statement added that preliminary investigations indicate Ziyab was responsible for pursuing and arresting large numbers of young men in Hasaka and Qamishlo before transferring them to the Palestine Branch and Saydnaya Military Prison.

The Ministry of Interior stressed that the arrest is part of its ongoing efforts to pursue individuals accused of committing violations and offenses affecting the security of citizens, in preparation for taking legal measures against them and referring them to the competent judiciary.
