Syria Empties 87 Displacement Camps and Merges Hundreds More
ARK News.. The Syrian Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor announced that 87 displacement camps across Syria have been emptied, while 183 others have been merged, following the return of residents to their original villages.
In a statement published through its official platforms, the Ministry said that the consolidation of 183 camps was carried out after the population of the camps declined, with the aim of optimizing resources and improving the efficiency of service delivery.
The Ministry also confirmed that humanitarian return convoys to the towns of Kafr Zita and al-Latamina in Hama Governorate are continuing, describing them as "a testament to the residents' deep attachment to their land and their desire to resettle."
In a report released in late June, the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) stated that the internal displacement crisis remains ongoing despite the closure of a number of camps and the return of more than 1.8 million internally displaced persons.
The report added that 1,126 camps remain operational across northern Syria, sheltering nearly 700,000 displaced people. It also noted that the floods that struck several areas in February highlighted the continued vulnerability and fragile conditions in the remaining camps.
