New sanctions against the Syrian regime... The Captagon 2 law was introduced in the US House of Representatives
After the US government announced its strategy to combat the Captagon trade last June, the Republican and Democratic parties in the US House of Representatives put forward, on Wednesday, the Captagon Law 2.
Muhammad Ghanem, a member of the American Coalition for Syria, said, in a tweet on Twitter, that the new bill gives the US government new powers to impose sanctions on the Assad regime, Hezbollah and their networks, and all those involved or active in trafficking, manufacturing, smuggling, or transferring profits from Captagon
He added that the sponsors of the bill described Bashar al-Assad as "the leader of an international drug-trafficking gang."
Earlier, Tuesday, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly rejected a proposal submitted by four Republican representatives to end the "national emergency" and lift the US sanctions imposed on the Syrian regime and four other countries.
Commenting on the House's rejection of the proposal, the former US envoy to Syria, Joel Rayburn, said that the vote "showed once again that Congress simply will not relieve pressure on Assad, and this policy will remain permanent."
