ARK News… Tuesday, July 13, 2022, marked the tenth anniversary of the kidnapping of Jamil Omar Abu Adel, one of the founders of the Union of Democratic Forces in Syria, in the city of Qamishlo in Syrian Kurdistan.

Who is Jamil Omar?

Jamil Omar Ibrahim Abu Adel, born in Qamishlo - Tel Tair in 1953, was a former leader in the Democratic Union Party (PYD), and he left its ranks and was highly critical of them. He is one of the founders of the Union of Kurdish Democratic Forces in Syria and occupies a leading position in it. He was strongly present in the movement of the Syrian revolution in the Kurdish regions, leading demonstrations and giving speeches in them.

In a previous statement to ARK, the politician Nawaf Rashid, a member of the political committee of the Kurdish Yekiti Party - Syria, and the head of the region’s representation for the Kurdish National Council in Syria, said: The leader of the Kurdish Democratic Forces in Syria, Jamil Abu Adel, was kidnapped before his eyes by gunmen affiliated with The Democratic Union Party (PYD) in the city center of Qamishlo.

Jamil Omar Ibrahim Abu Adel is married and has 13 sons and daughters. He was kidnapped in Qamishlo next to the statue on 13/07/2012 and his fate is still unknown, and his name is on the list of detainees’ names handed over by the Kurdish National Council in Syria to the PYD as a condition for their release, as part of unification initiatives the position of the Kurdish parties in Syrian Kurdistan.
