KDP-Syria Calls for Annulment of All Discriminatory Decrees That Targeted Kurds for Decades

In a move aimed at strengthening joint party efforts and coordinating national positions, Abd al-Basit Hamo, a member of the Central Committee of the Kurdistan Democratic Party–Syria (KDP-S), and an accompanying delegation visited the party’s office in Hasaka. They were received by Bashar Amin, a member of the party’s Political Bureau, along with members of the party’s local committee in the province.

Bashar Amin welcomed the visiting delegation, describing the visit as a reflection of the depth of their fraternal relations and shared organizational affiliation. He said it carried political and symbolic significance that reinforced internal unity at a pivotal stage in the history of Syria and the region.

For his part, Abd al-Basit Hamo provided a comprehensive overview of the party’s activities and performance in Europe. He stressed the importance of continuing to build bridges with European communities and institutions, while emphasizing that the real weight of the party’s work remains tied to its effectiveness and influence inside Syria, which he described as the primary arena for political struggle and nation-building.

The meeting addressed local, regional, and international developments and their implications for Syria in general and the Kurdish people’s issues in particular. Particular attention was given to Syria’s future in the post-political settlement phase and the importance of ensuring genuine Kurdish representation in any future constitutional or political arrangements.

The participants also stressed the need to enshrine the principle of equal citizenship and incorporate the national, cultural, and administrative rights of the Kurdish people into the text of Syria’s new constitution. They called for the annulment of all discriminatory decrees and exceptional laws imposed on Kurds over decades, paving the way for official recognition of Syria’s ethnic and cultural diversity as a foundation for national unity and stability.

The discussion also covered deteriorating economic conditions and their impact on citizens’ livelihoods. The participants stressed the need for the party to play an active role in shaping Syria’s future economic recovery through a comprehensive development vision that promotes social justice and national production, with particular attention to northeastern Syria as an integral part of the country’s economic fabric.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants reaffirmed their commitment to continuing unified political efforts in support of the Kurdish cause within the broader Syrian context and to addressing the concerns of all components of Syrian society. They stressed that the next phase will require exceptional political awareness and a high level of coordination to achieve the aspirations of all Syrians for freedom, dignity, and justice.
