ARK News… We remember with great pride the 52nd anniversary of the March 11 agreement, which was one of the greatest achievements of the freedom movement of the people of Kurdistan President Masoud Barzani said in a statement.

On this date 52 years ago, the Iraqi government signed an agreement to acknowledge some of the basic rights of the Kurds who had long been struggling for their freedom. It was hailed as the first agreement of its kind.

“As the result of persistence and resistance of the people of Kurdistan and the revolution, led by [Kurdish leader] Mustafa Barzani, the Iraqi regime was forced to acknowledge parts of the rights of our people on 11 March 1970, Barzani said.

The Kurdish leader emphasized that the agreement showed that any attempt to eliminate Kurds and deprive them of their natural rights as a nation is doomed to failure. He added that the Kurdish revolutions have always been for the realization of peace, coexistence, genuine partnership, and balance.

The Kurdish leader, who has spent six decades of his life as a Peshmerga, pointed out that the will of the Kurds and their aspiration for freedom has made significant achievements despite the Iraqi government violating the March 11 Agreement five years after it was signed.

“Today, on the anniversary of the March 11 Agreement, we affirm the peaceful message of the people of Kurdistan in peaceful coexistence, their will, which will not be broken under any circumstances or any form of pressure, and will never give up their freedom and legitimate rights,” Barzani concluded his message.
