Kurdistan Leaders Offer Condolences over Passing of Renowned Kurdish-Kazakh Academic

Kurdistan Region senior Kurdish leaders have offered condolences over the passing of prominent Kazakh-Kurdish engineer and highly-respected academic Nadir Karim Nadirov who died at the age of 89 on Tuesday.

Born in 1932 in Azerbaijan's Nakhichevan, Nadirov passed away in Kazakhstan's largest city of Almaty after fighting an undisclosed illness, his family announced in a statement on Twitter.

President Masoud Barzani expressed condolences over the death of the Kurdish professor and pointed out that "his passing was a great loss." Barzani reminded that Nadirov played an influential role in uniting the Kurds of Kazakhstan and the former Soviet Union, including supervising their affairs.

The Kurdish professor had been granted the nickname " Kazakhstan's Father of Oil and Gas" as he was one of the early engineers that discovered oil reserves for his nation. Moreover, Nadirov also served as the president of the Association of Kurds in Kazakhstan, the director of the Neft scientific center, the first vice-president of the Engineering Academy of Kazakhstan, as well as a presidential advisor for over a decade.

President Nechirvan Barzani said in a statement on Twitter: "I offer my condolences to his family, friends and all the Kurds in Kazakhstan. I share their concerns," adding that the memory of Nadirov, "with his service and hard work", will always remain alive.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani also offered condolences to the family of the Kurdish influential academic and noted that he was saddened to hear about his passing.
