Syrian Democratic Forces Accused of Abducting Minor Zainab Abdul Raouf Hamo in Hasaka

Jun 02 2026

ARK News.. Continuing what has been described as a policy of intimidating children, depriving them of their childhood, and placing them in compulsory recruitment camps, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have allegedly abducted a Kurdish minor from the city of Hasaka.

Local sources in Al-Hasaka, in Syrian Kurdistan, reported that members of the Revolutionary Youth Movement affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces abducted the minor girl Zainab Abdul Raouf Hamo, aged 12, on May 8, 2026.

In a video circulating on social media, a relative of the girl appealed to SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi, as well as human rights organizations and bodies concerned with child protection, to intervene urgently to determine Zainab’s whereabouts and secure her return to her family as soon as possible.

Despite the Syrian Democratic Forces having signed an action plan with the United Nations aimed at ending and preventing the recruitment and use of children under the age of 18 in military activities—a plan signed by SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi and the United Nations Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, Virginia Gamba—reports of the abduction of underage boys and girls continue to emerge.

The allegations come amid ongoing concerns regarding child recruitment and the implementation of commitments made under the UN action plan.
