US Works to Cut Houthis Off from Funding and Weapons

ARK News.. A US official said freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and the wider region, along with preventing the export of terrorism, are among the United States’ core interests in the Middle East, stressing that the administration of President Donald Trump continues to act against the Iran-backed Houthi group.

According to Sky News Arabia, a US State Department spokesperson said the Trump administration had “clearly demonstrated its commitment to defending these interests in the face of aggression from Iran and its proxies.”

“The United States has worked to deny the Iran-backed Houthis access to sources of funding and weapons whenever the opportunity has arisen,” the spokesperson said.

The US official said Washington had imposed sanctions on more than 200 entities linked to the Houthis, whom the Trump administration has designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, as part of efforts to limit the group’s ability to carry out what the official described as “terrorist activities".

The official added that the United States regularly engages with its allies and regional partners on Yemen and continues to focus on shared counterterrorism objectives in confronting the Houthis and other terrorist groups that spread instability across the region.
