Mohammed Ismail: Constitutional Recognition of Kurdish People and National Rights in Syria Is Non-Negotiable

ARK News.. Mohammed Ismail, secretary of the Kurdistan Democratic Party – Syria (KDP-Syria) and president of the Kurdish National Council in Syria (KNC), said that constitutional recognition of the existence of the Kurdish people and their national rights in Syria cannot be relinquished.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page on Saturday, September 26, 2026, Ismail said, "Constitutional recognition of the existence of the Kurdish people, their legitimate national rights, and their genuine partnership in the Syrian state is the foundation that cannot be relinquished in exchange for positions or symbolic posts.”

In an earlier statement during an organisational seminar held by KDP-Syria in Hasaka, Ismail said the KNC would continue its peaceful political and diplomatic efforts from Damascus to consolidate the constitutional rights of the Kurdish people and work to correct what he described as the distorted image of Kurds promoted by the former regime by informing Syrian society about their rights, history and national identity.

The KNC president added that the council had supported “integration” based on its conviction that the Autonomous Administration and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were not linked to the Kurdish national cause.

He said, however, that the integration process had not produced substantive outcomes serving the rights of the Kurdish people, apart from the allocation of positions that did not represent those rights.
