KNC Europe Representation discusses Kurdish rights in Syria with German Foreign Ministry

ARK News.. A delegation from the Europe Representation of the Kurdish National Council in Syria (KNC) discussed political developments in Syria, the rights of the Kurdish people, the country’s future, and the return of displaced people to their areas with Marty Hanik, the German Foreign Ministry official responsible for the Syria file.

The meeting was held on Tuesday, Sep. 22, 2026, and brought together Abdul Karim Haji, head of the KNC Europe Representation; Mohammed Amin Omar, a member of the Presidency Office; Hussein Mohammed, head of the Berlin local branch of the representation; and Mohammed Iqbal.

At the beginning of the meeting, Hanik welcomed the delegation, while Haji expressed his thanks to Germany, its government and people, for its support for democracy and human rights.

According to a statement issued by the representation, Haji presented the KNC’s vision regarding the situation in Syria and the country’s future, stressing the importance of enshrining the national rights of the Kurdish people in Syria’s permanent constitution and guaranteeing the rights of the country’s various ethnic and religious components.

The meeting also addressed the situation of displaced Kurds from Sari Kaniye, Gire Spi, and Afrin.

The delegation stressed the need to create the necessary conditions for the safe and dignified return of the original inhabitants to their areas and properties, while preserving their rights and property.

The delegation called on the European Union, particularly Germany, to play a more active role in supporting the political process in Syria and contribute to building a democratic and pluralistic state that guarantees the rights of the various components of Syrian society.

The delegation members also stressed the importance of protecting and enshrining the rights of all Syrian components within a clear constitutional framework.

For her part, Hanik affirmed Germany’s support for a political solution in Syria, according to the delegation’s statement. She noted that the German government is closely following developments in the country and stressed the importance of continuing meetings and exchanging views with various Syrian parties and components.
