Kurdistan Diaspora Union Launches Diplomatic Campaign in Four European Countries

The Kurdistan Diaspora Union on Friday, September 25, 2026, launched a broad diplomatic campaign in four European countries to mark the ninth anniversary of the Kurdistan independence referendum, sending official messages to parliamentary representatives in Sweden, Germany, Finland and Norway.

A high-level delegation led by Ismail Kamel, president of the confederation, accompanied by members of its executive committee and activists, held a political and diplomatic gathering outside the Swedish Parliament in Stockholm.

The delegation delivered an official statement to representatives and parliamentary groups of all political parties in Sweden, highlighting what it described as the legitimate and democratic rights of the people of Kurdistan and calling for greater support for the Kurdish national cause within decision-making institutions in Europe and around the world.

In Germany, a Kurdish diaspora delegation delivered an official message from the Kurdistan Diaspora Union to the Düsseldorf Parliament. The delegation was received by parliamentary officials and discussed the historical, humanitarian and political dimensions of the referendum.

The message highlighted the suffering and sacrifices of people in the Kurdistan Region, including the Anfal campaigns, the chemical attack on Halabja and the genocide of the Barzanis. It also praised the role of the Kurdistan Peshmerga in fighting ISIS and protecting civilians.

In Finland, a joint delegation from the Kurdistan Diaspora Union’s central office and the Finland branch of the Kurdistan Democratic Party visited the Finnish Parliament.

The delegation presented its demands to Laura Marilla, a Left Alliance MP and chair of the Finnish-Kurdistan Parliamentary Friendship Group. During the meeting at the parliament building in Helsinki, the delegation called on Finnish lawmakers to support the outcome of the Kurdistan independence referendum.

They also highlighted the role of Masoud Barzani in leading the referendum process and conveyed anniversary greetings to the families of victims and the people of Kurdistan.

In Norway, representatives of the Kurdistan Diaspora Union and the Youth Union visited the Norwegian Parliament in Oslo and delivered their official message to Frode Jacobsen, a Labour Party MP and the party’s Oslo leader.

According to the information, Jacobsen pledged to convey the Kurdish diaspora’s message and demands to members of the Norwegian Parliament.
