CENTCOM: U.S.-Saudi Airstrikes Target Iran-Backed Militias in Iraq

ARK News.. The United States Central Command announced that U.S. forces, in coordination with the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces, carried out precision airstrikes against what it described as positions belonging to Iran-backed militias in eastern Iraq, saying the operation was conducted in response to a series of drone attacks targeting U.S. forces and Saudi energy infrastructure.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, CENTCOM said the strikes were conducted on Tuesday evening and targeted logistical facilities and weapons depots allegedly used by Iran-backed militants to launch attacks against U.S. forces and critical infrastructure in Saudi Arabia.

The statement said U.S. and Saudi fighter aircraft participated in the operation, describing it as a "strong response" to more than 30 drone attacks that it said had been carried out by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps over the previous 72 hours.

CENTCOM also stated that between February and April 2026, more than 600 attempted attacks targeted U.S. personnel and facilities, attributing them to Iran-backed militias operating in Iraq.

Saudi Defense Ministry spokesperson Turki al-Maliki said the Saudi Armed Forces, in coordination with CENTCOM, had conducted targeted precision strikes against positions belonging to Iran-backed militias inside Iraqi territory. He added that the operation was linked to recent attacks targeting the Kingdom's oil facilities.

For its part, the Popular Mobilization Forces said in a statement on Wednesday that 20 of its members were killed and 32 others injured in the latest U.S.-Saudi strikes. The group described the attacks as "a highly dangerous escalation" and "a violation of Iraq's sovereignty."

The developments come amid continued military escalation between the United States and Iran following the collapse of the temporary ceasefire agreement in April, with U.S. strikes against Iranian-linked targets increasing while Iran continues to target U.S. forces and critical infrastructure across the Gulf region.
