Oman Proposes Regional Framework to Iran for the Management of the Strait of Hormuz

ARK News.. A Gulf source has revealed that the Sultanate of Oman has presented Iran with a proposal for a joint regional mechanism to manage the Strait of Hormuz through a voluntary fee-based system.
According to Reuters, the Gulf source said the Omani proposal, which has regional backing, would ensure that Iran does not exercise unilateral control over the strategic waterway.
The source added that the proposal is modeled on the Strait of Malacca, where users of the strait voluntarily contribute to funding navigation services, environmental protection, and search-and-rescue operations.
