Iran Targets U.S. Bases in Jordan and Kuwait Again as Washington Reinforces Military Presence
ARK News.. Iran announced that it has launched ballistic missile strikes targeting U.S. military bases and facilities in Jordan and Kuwait as the United States began deploying additional warplanes to the region amid escalating military tensions between the two sides.
In a statement issued on Monday, July 20, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had targeted U.S. aircraft at Aqaba Airport in Jordan with ballistic missiles, in addition to U.S. military positions and equipment at al-Adairi Camp and Ali al Salem Air Base in Kuwait.
The IRGC also warned that the Strait of Hormuz "will remain unsafe as long as U.S. attacks continue," adding that "the waterway will not be safe for the passage of petrochemical products—or even a single drop of oil and gas.
A spokesperson for Kuwait's Ministry of Defense said Iranian attacks on civilian and strategic facilities were continuing, including sites affiliated with the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, adding that Kuwaiti air defenses were actively intercepting incoming threats.
In Bahrain, the Ministry of Interior announced via X that air raid sirens had sounded multiple times.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy in Manama warned of information indicating a possible Iranian attack on unspecified locations in central Manama and urged American citizens to exercise caution. The U.S. Embassy in Jordan also advised Americans to avoid Aqaba Airport and port.
The United States has begun deploying additional combat aircraft to the region, a move that may reflect preparations by President Donald Trump's administration to expand military operations against Iran, according to The New York Times.
The reported reinforcements include F-16 fighter jets from Germany, F-35 stealth fighters from the United Kingdom, and aerial refueling aircraft.
Israel's Channel 13 reported that the country's security establishment is considering three scenarios that could trigger direct Israeli involvement in the conflict: A direct Iranian attack on Israel. Intelligence indicating preparations for an imminent Iranian strike requiring a preemptive response. A formal request from U.S. President Donald Trump for Israel to join military operations against Iran.
Amid diplomatic efforts, Israeli media reported that Qatar has proposed a new de-escalation initiative under which the United States would suspend strikes on Iran for 10 days in exchange for Tehran reopening two shipping lanes through the Strait of Hormuz during the same period.
The escalating conflict has also affected global energy markets, with oil prices rising by around 3%. Brent crude futures climbed above $90 per barrel, reaching their highest level since June 11.
The latest developments come as military tensions between the United States and Iran continue to intensify following the collapse of a temporary ceasefire, heightening concerns over maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and the stability of global energy supplies.
