ARK News.. Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Sunday, July 19, 2026, inaugurated a strategic public service project that will provide clean drinking water to 53 villages located on the outskirts of the Mergasor, Akre, and Khalifan districts.

According to Kurdish sources, the project's water intake and source are located in Balinda village in Mergasor District, where a water treatment and purification plant has been built with a production capacity of 1,200 cubic meters per hour, supplying safe drinking water to approximately 35,000 residents in the surrounding villages and communities.

The project also includes three main pumping stations, 24 water pumps, and 70 water storage tanks with capacities ranging from 100 to 8,000 cubic meters.

Its infrastructure features approximately 220 kilometers of main transmission pipelines and more than 320 kilometers of internal distribution networks, bringing the project's total pipeline length to 540 kilometers.

The completion of the project is expected to improve living conditions for local residents, encourage families to remain in their villages, and support the agricultural and livestock sectors, contributing to the strengthening of the Kurdistan Region's local economy and productive capacity.
