The Lebanese news website Al-Modon reported that Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani will pay an official visit to Beirut next Thursday, marking his first visit to Lebanon since the launch of the process to reorganize relations between the two countries following the political changes in Syria.

According to the website's report, published on Monday, June 29, 2026, the visit aims to follow up on efforts to strengthen Lebanese-Syrian relations and continue discussions on mechanisms for bilateral cooperation, particularly the formation of joint committees tasked with advancing economic cooperation and establishing coordination channels between the ministries and official institutions of both countries, within the framework of a new approach to bilateral relations based on direct cooperation and respect for the sovereignty of both states.

The source added: "The visit carries particular significance as it comes after the statements made by Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, in which he stressed Damascus' commitment to establishing the best possible relations with Lebanon, rejected any Syrian military intervention in Lebanese affairs, and emphasized the importance of maintaining balanced relations with all Lebanese political and sectarian components."

The report also stated that al-Shaibani is scheduled to hold a series of official meetings with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam. He will also meet Foreign Minister Youssef Raji to discuss bilateral issues and ways to further develop relations between the two countries.

It further noted that the visit will include meetings with a number of religious leaders, in addition to political talks with former Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Janpolat and Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea, as part of a broad consultation tour reflecting Damascus' desire to open a new chapter with Lebanon's various political forces, alongside the ongoing official track of relations between the two countries.
