Hoshyar Zebari: The Kurdistan Region Is a Haven for the Free and Will Not Allow Any Corrupt Individual to Use It as a Safe Haven

A member of the Administrative Committee of the Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) affirmed that the Kurdistan Region will always remain a safe haven for the free and the oppressed and will not allow any corrupt individual or criminal to use Kurdistan as a refuge.

In a post published today, Monday, June 29, 2026, on his official account on the X platform, Hoshyar Zebari, a member of the Administrative Committee of the Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, said: "The Kurdistan Region represents a fortress of freedom and democracy in Iraq."

Zebari further stated that the region's doors have always been, and continue to be, open to all free Iraqis, the oppressed, and those who have been subjected to human rights violations and torture. At the same time, he issued a stern warning, saying: "Kurdistan will never become a safe haven for criminals, those who steal public funds, or the corrupt."

According to Iraqi media sources, a large-scale security campaign carried out at dawn yesterday, Sunday, by the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service and Iraqi security forces, in coordination with the Supreme Judicial Council, resulted in the arrest of 47 suspects, including senior officials and members of parliament, on charges related to financial and administrative corruption.
