Netanyahu Orders Military to Strike Beirut’s Southern Suburbs

Jun 01 2026

ARK News.. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, June 1, 2026, ordered the Israeli military to carry out strikes against targets in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

According to a statement issued by Netanyahu’s office:

“Following the repeated violations of the ceasefire in Lebanon by the Hezbollah terrorist organization and the attacks against our cities and citizens, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz have instructed the Israel Defense Forces to strike terrorist targets in the Beirut suburb area.”

Israel’s announcement of its intention to target Beirut’s southern suburbs came a day after its forces seized the Beaufort Castle (Qal’at al-Shaqef), which overlooks vast areas of southern Lebanon and holds symbolic significance as it served as a base for Israeli forces during their two-decade occupation of southern Lebanon until the year 2000.
