ARK News.. President Barzani affirmed that the Kurdistan Region has never demanded more than its constitutional framework, and will not accept less than what the constitution grants to the people of Kurdistan.

President Masoud Barzani received today, Monday, August 4, 2025, Germany’s Ambassador to Iraq, Christiane Hohmann, in a farewell visit marking the end of her tenure, in the presence of Albert von Wietkhe, the German Consul General in Erbil.

President Barzani thanked Germany and the European Union for their support of the Kurdistan Region’s constitutional status.

Regarding relations between the Region and the federal government, President Barzani stated that a return to the principles of consensus, balance, and partnership is the best solution, emphasizing, “We seek to implement the constitution. We have not asked for more than our constitutional framework, but we will not accept less than what the constitution grants the people and the Kurdistan Region.”

On the steps toward forming the new KRG cabinet, President Barzani noted that following a meeting between the political bureaus of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), there is now better understanding to form the new cabinet. “We hope the new regional government will be formed before the Iraqi parliamentary elections,” he said.

For her part, Ambassador Hohmann expressed her appreciation for President Barzani’s role and leadership, reaffirming Germany’s and European countries’ support for the Kurdistan Region’s constitutional status. She noted that the presence of a significant number of consulates in the Region is a message that Kurdistan must be protected and defended.

She also praised the Kurdistan Region’s achievements in economic infrastructure, peace, and stability, expressing hope that such successes could be replicated elsewhere in Iraq. Ambassador Hohmann also voiced her wish that the clear model demonstrated in the Kurdistan Region in services—especially in water and electricity—could be applied throughout Iraq for the benefit of its citizens.

The political situation, the latest developments in the region and Iraq, and the emphasis on further developing relations between the Kurdistan Region and Germany were also discussed during the meeting.
