Turkey reaffirms continued military support for Syria as Israel issues warning

Aug 21 2026

ARK News.. The Turkish Defense Ministry has confirmed that Ankara will continue supporting Syria’s efforts to develop its military capabilities and infrastructure, after Israel carried out airstrikes on a Syrian air base and warned Ankara against what it described as "dangerous adventures" there.

During a weekly briefing on Thursday, August 20, 2026, the Turkish Defense Ministry said there had been no Turkish military delegation at the air base targeted by Israel, either before or during the strikes.

Ankara also renewed its call on the international community to take more serious and effective measures against what it described as Israel’s actions, which it said threaten regional peace and stability.

Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Thursday that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was "dragging Turkey into dangerous adventures in Syria," in comments following an Israeli attack on a Syrian air base earlier this week.

Israel struck Abu al-Duhur Air Base on Tuesday, warning that Syria had been on the verge of "violating the status quo in security matters with Israel" by allowing Turkish forces to deploy at the air base.
