OCHA: Syria Needs Long-Term Stability Investments
ARK News.. The spokesperson for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) emphasized the need for long-term stability investments in Syria, focusing on rebuilding essential services such as electricity and ensuring sustainable livelihoods for the population.
Jens Laerke, OCHA's spokesperson, stated that supporting long-term reconstruction in Syria falls outside the immediate humanitarian mandate of the organization. Instead, the primary focus remains on addressing urgent humanitarian needs.
Laerke called for prioritizing food, shelter, healthcare, and clean water, describing these as "the most pressing needs."
He also highlighted the financial challenges facing humanitarian efforts in Syria. Last year, the UN appealed for $4.1 billion to assist 10.8 million people but managed to secure only one-third of the required funding.
According to Laerke, this funding shortfall hampers the delivery of critical aid needed to support Syrians enduring dire circumstances.
