US State Department Meets with Syrian Opposition Delegation

ARK News.. America has affirmed a comprehensive, Syrian-led solution to the conflict in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

The US Embassy in Syria said on its Facebook page: "Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Franceschi met with members of the Syrian Negotiating Commission, the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces, and the Syrian Interim Government during #UNGA79."

The embassy added that Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Franceschi affirmed America's strong commitment to the Syrian opposition and to a comprehensive, Syrian-led solution to the conflict in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

In a meeting on the side-lines of the UN General Assembly meetings, Jamous stressed the Body's "full adherence to international resolutions and its respect for their implementation, most notably the Geneva Statement and UN Resolutions 2254 and 2118.

Jamous expressed his "conviction that the Syrian regime continues to evade implementing these resolutions, as long as there are no mechanisms obligating it to submit to them and move forward with the political change process stipulated in these resolutions."

The head of the Negotiating Body discussed with the American official "the necessity of all active countries supporting the political solution to the Syrian issue in the UN General Assembly, and collective pressure to find binding mechanisms to move this file that all parties, including the major countries, have agreed to."
