Israeli Army Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir Conducts Field Tour Inside Syria
ARK News.. Israeli Army Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir conducted a field tour in southern Syria accompanied by senior military officers, one day after Israel carried out airstrikes on Abu al-Duhour Airbase.
Israeli media outlets, citing the Israeli military, reported in a statement that Zamir received a security briefing on the situation on the ground during his tour on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, and met with reservist soldiers deployed in the area.
The reports did not specify the locations visited or identify the officers who accompanied Zamir. They also said no new operational decisions were announced during the visit.
The tour came one day after Israel carried out eight airstrikes on Abu al-Duhour Airbase in the eastern countryside of Idlib, targeting the base’s runway and storage areas, according to multiple sources and reports. No casualties were reported.
Israel justified the strikes by saying Syria was approaching a breach of the existing security arrangements by allowing Turkish forces to deploy at the base. Turkey denied the allegations and condemned the strikes, while U.S. Special Envoy to Syria Tom Barrack described the attack as “unnecessary escalation.”
