ARK News… Russia has urged the World Bank to resume cooperation with the Syrian regime, affirming that the World Bank is "well-prepared to provide assistance" to the Syrian government.

During the 109th meeting of the Development Committee of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, Russian Prime Minister Alexei Ovtchuk stated in a statement, as reported by the TASS news agency, that his country "expects the World Bank to resume cooperation with the Syrian regime and provide assistance."

Ovtchuk explained that Russia "expects the World Bank to adopt an equal approach towards all participants, and to find a solution to renew cooperation with the Syrian regime and provide assistance to it," adding that the regime "has the right to take a fair and unbiased stance, and the World Bank is well-prepared to provide assistance to the Syrian government."

Ovtchuk pointed out that "after the 2023 earthquake in Syria and Turkey, the World Bank provided significant and commendable assistance to Turkey, but abandoned the Syrian regime despite the serious challenges it faces," noting that the World Food Programme recently stopped general food support in Syria due to funding shortages.
