Due to the inability to maintain... Damascus International Airport's suspension period has been extended
ARK News… The “Sawt Al-Asimah” website, which is close to the Syrian regime, on Friday, November 24, 2023, quoting a source in the regime’s Ministry of Transport, said that the shutdown period for Damascus International Airport will be extended until next December, due to the inability to maintain it, after it went out of service following the Israeli targeted it.
He added that the administration of Damascus International Airport decided to extend the suspension of work there until the beginning of next December due to the lack of completion of maintenance work and restoration of the damage caused by the Israeli raids last October 12, indicating that the administration of Damascus International Airport was unable to maintain it and resume its operation as a result of logistical and technical difficulties.
Voice of the Capital added that the airport administration faced difficulties in securing technical equipment, cables, and materials involved in restoring and preparing the runway floors, especially the southern runway of the airport, which is considered the main runway.
According to "Sawt Al-Asimah", the northern runways at Damascus International Airport are ready for service, but the airport administration cannot schedule and organize flight take-offs and landings in the northern runway only for technical reasons that require the operation of the first runway.
Recently, Israel targeted Aleppo and Damascus international airports and other sites belonging to Iranian militias in Syria in response to its launching of missiles towards Israel. This led to them being out of service after sustaining major damage, which created great pressure on Latakia Airport, as it remained the only airport serving international flights in Syria.
