Washington Considers Using Frozen Iranian Assets to Rebuild Affected Countries
ARK News.. The United States is considering making Iran’s frozen assets available to its Gulf allies to support reconstruction projects and repair future damage allegedly caused by Tehran, according to a source familiar with the matter cited by Reuters.
In a report published on Sunday, June 7, 2026, Reuters said that U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had instructed a specialized team to conduct a comprehensive assessment of damage attributed to Iran across Gulf countries as part of efforts to examine potential mechanisms for financing repair and reconstruction operations.
The move comes one day after Muhsen Razhaei, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, told CNN that any potential peace agreement would depend on the release of $24 billion in Iranian assets frozen by the United States.
According to the source, the prospect of redirecting those assets could trigger a new escalation that may jeopardize the fragile ceasefire that has been in place between Washington and Tehran since April 7.
Amid continuing tensions, the U.S. military announced on Saturday evening that it had shot down two Iranian drones that it said were threatening maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for an attack targeting U.S. military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain.
The United States and Iran continue to engage in indirect negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement to end the three-month-long conflict. However, both sides remain divided over key conditions, fueling regional and international concerns that a collapse of the talks could undermine regional security and disrupt global economic stability.
