After the recent escalation, a UN delegation visits Idlib to assess the conditions of the displaced
ARK News… A UN delegation, on Monday, October 16, visited a number of displacement camps and the city of Idlib to learn about the conditions of the displaced and the recent campaign launched by Russia and the Syrian regime forces on the regions of Idlib and the western countryside of Aleppo.
A local source reported that the Deputy Regional Humanitarian Coordinator for the Syrian Crisis, David Cardin, visited with representatives from the United Nations High Commissioner, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization the camps for the displaced in northern Idlib, and then headed to Idlib city.
He added that the delegation assessed the situation in the region after the bombing campaign that lasted ten days, which targeted approximately 1,400 sites in the towns and villages of Idlib and the western countryside of Aleppo, which led to the displacement of about 70,000 civilians from 90 areas, especially the western, southern and eastern Idlib countryside.
He pointed out that the campaign caused the death of approximately 50 civilians, including 15 children and 11 women, and the injury of 300 civilians, including approximately 150 children and women.
According to the report of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, 28,000 newly displaced children need educational support, due to dozens of schools and educational facilities being damaged by bombing, in addition to the suspension of classes in other schools to preserve the lives of the children.
During its visit, the delegation conducted interviews with approximately 600 families to assess the necessary needs after the heavy bombardment. The needs were approximately 96% for housing, 50% for transportation to safer places, and 46% for psychological and mental health support.
