Austrian newspaper: Syrians are the most refugees who have obtained the right to reside in Europe

ARK News… Syrians constituted 32% of the refugees who received a positive decision on their applications and were granted the right to reside in European Union countries during the past year 2023.

According to statistics from the Directorate General of the European Commission, about 409,500 asylum seekers obtained the right to protection in one of the 27 European Union countries during the year 2023, an increase of about seven percent compared to the previous year, 2022.

The Austrian newspaper Kronen revealed that the number of positive decisions obtained by first-time asylum seekers throughout the European Union amounted to 358,200, in addition to 51,300 positive decisions granted to people who filed an appeal after their asylum application was rejected the first time.

The Austrian newspaper indicated that Syrians constituted the largest group of refugees who received a positive decision, at 32 percent, followed by Afghans (18 percent) and Venezuelans (10 percent). As for the type of residence of those who received a positive decision, 43 percent of them were granted “refugee status,” 35 percent were granted “subsidiary protection,” while 22 percent of them were granted “humanitarian status.”
