Kyiv: More than 66,000 war crimes committed by the Russians
ARK News… Legal experts: The staggering number of cases would overwhelm any judicial system
The Ukrainian Prosecutor General revealed that more than 66,000 additional crimes have been recorded in the country since the start of the Russian military operation last February.
And the number of recorded crimes is increasing by the hundreds every day with the deployment of investigators in the areas that the Ukrainians have recovered from the Russians, according to the American newspaper, "The Washington Post".
It also reported crimes ranging from theft of property to torture, murder, rape, deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia, and missile strikes relentlessly targeting Ukrainian infrastructure.
First-hand accounts and forensic evidence
For their part, legal experts said that the staggering number of cases would overwhelm any judicial system anywhere. But Ukraine's chief prosecutor, Andrei Kostin, has vowed to investigate all of them and to bring to trial all those about whom sufficient evidence can be gathered.
The liberation of territory by Ukrainian forces has allowed investigators to obtain first-hand accounts and forensic evidence within days or weeks of the crimes being committed rather than years, as has been the case with most previous attempts to prosecute war criminals.
Ukrainian officials have made it clear that if Ukraine succeeds in regaining more territory, the number of cases could easily double, according to the newspaper.
Prison sentences
In parallel, 25 Russians have been sentenced to prison terms, ranging from 10 years to life imprisonment.
According to figures provided by the General Prosecutor's Office, only 18 of the 250 Russians against whom sufficient evidence has been collected to bring charges are in Ukrainian custody as prisoners of war.
In turn, Kostin said that Ukraine is at the same time collecting evidence of high-level personalities who can be accused of committing violations of international law for transmission to international authorities.
But Ukrainian law prohibits the admission of evidence not collected by Ukrainian investigators, making some of the international assistance that has poured into the country unhelpful, said Yury Belousov, head of the war crimes prosecution department at the prosecutor's office.
international court
It is noteworthy that President Volodymyr Zelensky has made justice for victims of war crimes one of his conditions for achieving a final peace with Russia.
He called for the formation of an international tribunal on the perpetrators of war crimes in Ukraine, pointing out earlier this month the increase in the number of supporters in the world to establish a trial against the Russian military operation in Ukraine following the economic forum in Davos.

A communiqué issued by the Kurdistan Yekiti Party - Syria
ARK News... The Central Committee of the Kurdistan Yekiti Party - Syria on Monday, January 30, 2023, met and issued a statement regarding the topics discussed at the meeting, stating:
The Central Committee of the Kurdistan Yekiti Party - Syria held its first meeting after the end of the work of the ninth conference of the party, which was held on December 23-24, 2022, and positively assessed the public turnout to congratulate our party, by political, cultural and societal actors in all regions, and at the time the Central Committee thanked all those who communicated with us, I stressed the need to work hard to live up to our people's confidence in the Yekiti Party and its history of struggle.
The organizational aspect took the largest part of the meeting, and the conferees stressed the need to abide by the decisions of the conference and expedite their implementation in order to advance the party at all levels, and a number of decisions were taken in this aspect, including securing the reserves of the political committee, and the decision to hold conferences of party organizations in all regions and members were assigned The Political Committee was supervised by it, and a committee was formed to confirm the amendments approved by the conference in its documents and to prepare electoral instructions for conferences of party organizations.
The Central Committee stopped at the recent political developments and expressed its concern about the negative repercussions of the Ukrainian war on the political process in Syria, the regime’s intransigence in obstructing the political solution, and the deterioration of the exchange rate of the Syrian pound against the dollar. The international community is putting pressure on the regime to comply with international resolutions and put an end to the suffering of the Syrians and calls for normalization, rapprochement, and unilateral solutions with the regime are useless, and there is no alternative to implementing international resolutions to solve the Syrian crisis.
The meeting discussed the conditions of our people in each of Afrin, Serê kaniyê, and Girê Spî, which are under the control of the factions affiliated with the Coalition and Turkey, and they condemned all the violations that are taking place there and stressed the need to work with all concerned parties to put an end to these violations and to provide the necessary facilities for the return of the displaced to their homes.
As for the Kurdish areas under the control of the SDF, the economic conditions of citizens are going from bad to worse, due to the continuation of the policy of starving citizens pursued by the Democratic Union Party by imposing royalties on citizens and increasing the prices of fuel, food and agricultural materials in light of the scarcity of rain, in addition to the continued kidnapping children, compulsory conscription, non-professional education, ideological and not recognized by the international organization (UNESCO), all these conditions push many of them to sell their property and search for smuggling routes to migrate in search of a safe life for themselves and their children.
The meeting also condemned the Democratic Union Party's continued closure of the (Semalka) crossing in the face of citizens and the Kurdish National Council parties and appealed to the American side to pressure them to open the crossing for everyone, and not to exploit it for political ends.
The meeting stopped at the decision of the Federal Court in Baghdad to prevent the payment of the dues of the Kurdistan Region, and it believed that whenever the various political parties in Iraq agree on an understanding to get Iraq out of its crisis, get rid of corruption and implement the constitution, the so-called Federal Court will take retaliatory measures against the Kurdish people in service of anti-Kurdish agendas and a future Iraq, noting that this court has not issued any decision regarding many of the crucial issues that concern the Iraqi people.
In the face of these dangerous circumstances that target the achievements of the Kurdish people, the differences between the Kurdish parties must be overcome, especially between the Democratic Party and the Union, the two ruling parties. In Sulaimaniyah, it saw that there is no alternative to unity, in light of these dangers surrounding the achievements of the people in Iraqi Kurdistan.
The meeting also condemned the practices of the Iranian regime against the Kurdish people and the Iranian people who rose up for their rights and freedoms.

"Syria Response": More than half of the displaced people in northwestern Syria did not receive heating materials
ARK News… The "Syria Response Coordinators" team talked about terrible humanitarian conditions facing civilians in northwestern Syria, specifically in the camps, in conjunction with a significant drop in temperatures, pointing out that 58% of the displaced did not receive heating materials for this year.
Amidst the great inability to secure the supplies of civilians in the region and the inability of the organizations operating in the area to provide the necessary support to the civilian population in the region, the population's options have become very limited between securing food or heating materials for this year.
The team explained that despite the many campaigns and projects that the organizations claimed to have implemented during the past two months, they were unable to cover even a small part of the needs of civilians in the region, and even the beneficiaries of those projects were unable to cover their needs for only a few weeks.
The questionnaires conducted by the "Syria Response Coordinators" in the camps showed the reality of heating during the current winter, as 58% of the displaced did not receive heating materials this year. In comparison, 31% of the displaced got enough heating for four weeks only (with rationing in the use of heating materials). heating), and only 11% of the displaced received enough materials (between six and eight weeks only), while 90% of the displaced complained about the poor quality of heating materials provided and the poor quality used in response operations.
As for the villages, towns, and cities in northwestern Syria, neither the displaced nor those living in the area received heating materials, despite their compliance with the conditions and standards imposed on distribution operations.
The team called on all parties operating in the region to assume full responsibility and provide the necessary support for civilians in the region, in light of the difficult humanitarian conditions that imposed difficult choices on civilians between starvation and cold.
