Families of Abducted Kurds Issue a Statement on 13th Anniversary of the Lawyer Idris Alo’s Abduction
ARK News.. Families of abducted Kurds have issued a statement marking the 13th anniversary of the abduction of political activist and lawyer Idris Alo, calling for his fate to be disclosed immediately, his whereabouts established, and his release and safety ensured. They also called for anyone found responsible for his abduction and enforced disappearance to be held accountable in accordance with human rights and humanitarian laws and standards.
Full Statement:
On November 8, 2026, the 13th anniversary of the abduction of lawyer Idris Alo marks a crime that time cannot erase, whose effects are not diminished by prolonged absence, and which cannot be justified by silence or neglect.
Thirteen years have passed since his abduction and the disappearance of any information about his fate. His family continues to await truth and justice, enduring the pain of his absence and the bitterness of uncertainty. The failure to establish his fate or whereabouts constitutes a flagrant violation of human and legal rights and demands serious and responsible action to bring an end to this suffering.
We call for the immediate disclosure of lawyer Idris Alo’s fate, the determination of his whereabouts, and efforts to secure his release and ensure his safety. We also demand accountability for anyone proven responsible for his abduction and enforced disappearance, in accordance with human rights and humanitarian laws and standards.
We further appeal to the relevant authorities, the Syrian government, and local and international human rights and humanitarian organizations to fulfill their responsibilities and take serious action to resolve the cases of abducted and forcibly disappeared persons, free from political calculations and narrow interests.
The case of Idris Alo is not merely an anniversary recalled on a particular occasion. It is the case of a person, a right, and a family waiting for its son. It is a matter of dignity and justice that must not be abandoned. Silence over his fate prolongs his family’s suffering, while failure to address his case leaves the door open to further violations without accountability.
Thirteen years have passed, but our right to know the truth has not expired, and we will not abandon our demand for his fate to be revealed and justice to be achieved. Hope remains, and our calls will continue until the truth emerges and Idris Alo returns safely to his family.
Freedom for lawyer Idris Alo and all abducted and forcibly disappeared persons.
Justice is a right, and the truth does not expire with time.
