On Political Developments in the Kurdistan Region The Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party-Syria is closely following political developments in the Kurdistan Region and the positions emerging at this stage, which have implications for constitutional and institutional life and pose challenges to the Region’s stability and national achievements.

The constitutional and political standing achieved by the Kurdistan Region is the result of decades of struggle and sacrifice. The sister Kurdistan Democratic Party, under the leadership of President Masoud Barzani, has played a pivotal role in establishing this experience, protecting it and consolidating its foundations.

President Barzani has demonstrated at various critical junctures that the higher national interest takes precedence over partisan considerations. He has made sacrifices to achieve consensus, safeguard achievements, and maintain the Region’s stability, despite securing a majority.

The continued prioritization by certain parties of their partisan interests at the expense of the Kurdish cause, along with their pursuit of agreements and understandings with forces whose positions conflict with the interests of the Kurdistan Region, as well as attempts to obstruct and escalate tensions, could negatively affect the unity of the national position and its broader interests. Likewise, exerting pressure on constitutional institutions or restricting their role does not serve the Region’s stability, political progress, or relations.

In this context, we welcome the convening of the Kurdistan Parliament session and consider it an important and responsible step towards safeguarding constitutional legitimacy, ensuring the continuity of parliamentary and institutional life, and maintaining the confidence of the international community amid the tensions affecting the region.

The Kurdistan Region is a national achievement and a constitutional and democratic experience that represents a source of hope and pride for Kurds in general. It is everyone’s responsibility to preserve and protect it.
