US Midterm Elections Get Underway
ARK News.. The United States began voting on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, in midterm elections for Congress, amid a closely contested race between Republicans and Democrats for control of the House of Representatives and Senate. The elections represent a major political test for President Donald Trump and could reshape the balance of power in Washington during the remaining two years of his second term.
Polling stations began opening across the country, starting in eastern states, following early voting by more than 57 million people. Both parties are competing for all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of the Senate’s 100 seats. Gubernatorial races and other local elections are also taking place.
According to opinion polls and electoral analyses, Democrats have an opportunity to regain control of the House, while the Senate race remains more complicated. Republicans currently hold a majority of 53 seats, compared with 47 held by Democrats and independents aligned with them.
Democrats need a net gain of at least three seats to take control of the House and four seats to secure a majority in the Senate, considering that Republican Vice President JD Vance would cast the deciding vote in the event of a 50–50 tie.
Polling stations are scheduled to begin closing gradually from 6 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, November 3, to 2 a.m. on Wednesday, November 4, Damascus time, in parts of Indiana and Kentucky. The first partial results are expected after voting ends.
